Improved Tonearm Bearing Block & Counterweight

The tonearm pivot assembly might look familiar. It now uses the same bearing block as Debut PRO B. The additional mass draws unwanted resonance away from the armtube & cartridge. It also provides a more stable anchor for the tonearm’s pivot. The anti-skating scale at attached to the bearing block too, making it quite a bit easier to work with. The resonance is reduced to an even greater degree with a TPE-damped counterweight. These improvements along with the carbon fiber tube & ABEC 7 ball/race bearing provide effortless tracking with no friction, allowing all the micro-detail through.

Another implement that comes courtesy of the Debut PRO B & XA B turntables, this has quickly become one of our favorite vinyl record platters. 1.7kg (3.75 lbs) heavy, the platter is CNC-machined from aluminum. Additional machining is applied in the precision-balancing process, which ascertains the platter is completely steady & even as it rotates. To eliminate any potential for unwanted resonance created by the metal material, a ridge has been machined into the underside of the platter & filled with TPE (thermoplastic elastomer). This mutes any potential ‘ringing’ effect. Adding the cutout & TPE to the periphery of the platter also heighten the ‘flywheel effect,’ or rotational stability. Last & certainly not least, the use of aluminum instead of steel makes way for any and all moving coil phono cartridges. Since MC cartridges use much stronger magnets than do moving magnet cartridges, some MCs had potential for magnetic interaction with the steel platter supplied with the Debut Carbon EVO. This risk is now off the ‘table (pun intended).

With a hearty 7mV output, Pro-Ject’s new moving magnet cartridge has been tweaked specifically to sound great on the Debut EVO 2. Working in tandem with the Danish cartridge experts at Ortofon, Pick it MM EVO transcribes music with immediacy, speed & ‘slam.’ The cartridge’s sonic signature homogenizes harmoniously with Debut EVO 2’s more neutral & transparent underlay.

The audio junction box is now flush with the bottom of the MDF plinth for a cleaner aesthetic. The alluring new ‘Red Wine’ finish has been added to the satin-painted offerings. All other finishes remain intact. Satin finishes are ‘red wine,’ black, blue, green, white, yellow & real-Walnut wood veneer. Gloss finishes are black, white & red. All painted finishes are done by hand using an 8-coat process before finishing.

Pro-Ject was the first manufacturer to produce a carbon fiber tonearm for a ‘table costing less than $1000 (the original Debut Carbon). The Debut EVO 2 features a premium 8.6" carbon fiber armtube with a massive aluminum bearing block that draws resonance away from the cartridge. The ABEC-7-rated main tonearm ball/race bearing guarantees precise, stable and accurate tracking across a record side. ‘Adaptive anti-skating’ means that the anti-skate force increases across a record side. Due to progressively varying conditions from the outer to inner record grooves, skating force itself too increases as the arm traverses the record. Viewed thusly, it only makes sense that a decent anti-skating system adapts with it.

The turntables use switch-mode power supplies for good reason. They take the unrefined AC power from your wall and convert it to DC. That DC power is then fed to a DC/AC generator within the turntable, which in turn powers the AC motor. The advantage is that a completely new sine wave is created by the generator, fully decoupling your turntable from the dirty AC power coming from your outlet. This amounts to steady power being fed to the motor thereby enhancing speed stability.

Decent isolation feet are imperative to the performance of a hi-fi turntable. The Debut PRO B features a one-piece armtube precision-machined from aluminum & reinforced with carbon fiber. The combination of these materials delivers rigidity & damping characteristics rarely found in this class of turntable/tonearm pairing. Debut PRO B’s tonearm allows for adjustment of both azimuth & vertical tracking angle (VTA). The tonearm height can be continuously adjusted by loosening the two grub screws at the rear of the collar (and re-tightening them when desired height is reached!). This flexibility gives you the option of adapting the tonearm height should you want to explore various record mats and/or phono cartridges.

The nickel finish of the aluminum components results in harder, less resonant surfaces that look great. This process enables us to produce very high-quality and sustainable components. We avoid plastics and similarly ‘cheap’ materials as much as possible. The precision-CNC-machined components are aesthetically matched, and culminate in Debut PRO B’s simple, modern & elegant visual appeal.

Platter speed is controlled electronically with the utmost precision & stability. Easily change between 33 & 45rpm with the toggle switch. With the supplied round belt for 78rpm, you can also enjoy shellac discs. To prevent motor vibration from reaching the cartridge, Debut PRO B uses the latest motor suspension responsible for excellent decoupling of the motor from the plinth.

The 1.7kg (3.75lbs) die-cast aluminum platter is precision balanced with additional machining after casting. This facilitates perfect platter rotation while playing records. The heavy aluminum platter also adds a TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) damping ring & corresponding cutout on the underside, muting any resonance created by the metal record platter and contributing to the flywheel effect.

The Pro-Ject Pick it PRO Balanced cartridge allows for “True Balanced” signal transmission. A revised version of the Pick it PRO, the grounding has been re-routed so that it sends a symmetrical signal. The big advantage of a balanced connection is its ability to remove accrued noise and interference from the transmission line. Additionally, the “True Balanced” cable range offers several options for connecting your Debut PRO B to the Phono Box S3 B, Phono Box DS3 B or the Tube Box DS3 B phono stages.

Cables cannot add any information back to a given signal, rather, they’re responsible for allowing as much musical information as possible through to the receiving device. This is why the Connect it Phono E RCA cable is included. Optimized for phono applications, quality metals & careful configuration have been implemented to ensure lossless signal transmission.

T1 EVO – Your Introduction to High-Fidelity

The T1 EVO aims to deliver true high-fidelity sonics for vinyl enthusiasts on a limited budget. Boasting premium materials, stylish aesthetics and rich, lively sound quality, the extensive development process has ensured no compromise to sonics in the design & build of T1 EVO. T1 EVO’s motor drives a belt attached to a larger sub-platter (Debut-sized!) which rotates in a bearing assembly machined to tolerances within 0.001mm. The tonearm is an 8.6" one-piece aluminum design, meaning the headshell and armtube are integrated for the sake of rigidity & resonance control. The elegantly crafted CNC-machined plinth has been expanded in size to enhance stability & tonearm geometry. Available in 3 striking finishes (gloss black, satin white or Walnut laminate), no plastic is used in its construction! Also free of resonant hollow spaces, it effectively prevents unwanted vibration within the chassis. Compared to the T1, the glass platter is thicker & heavier which ensures a zero-resonance design that eliminates the shortcomings associated with plastic or cheap steel alternatives. Purpose-selected turntable feet effectively isolate the T2 from ambient vibrations in the vicinity of your hi-fi system.

The T2’s motor and drive system remain identical to those found in the T1. The motor drives the flat belt that in turn drives the anti-resonant sub-platter. The sub-platter is mounted to an ultra-precise main bearing comprised of a hardened steel axle in brass bushing (machined to a tolerance of 0.001mm!). Where most alternative products use unregulated DC motors with wide speed fluctuations, the T2 uses the electronically-regulated precision-speed AC motor. Electronic speed change between 33 and 45rpm is accessible with the rocker switch as well! All told, it’s a highly-stable & ultra-low-noise drive system.

The T2’s tonearm has been improved for better cartridge geometry. Still a one-piece aluminum design, its effective length improves to 9". It adds an updated low-friction bearing to accommodate the increased length and diameter for absolute accuracy in use. Aside from clean aesthetics, the integrated headshell is a key player in minimizing armtube resonance (bonded headshells have adverse effects in terms of resonance). The T2 also features user-friendly spring-based anti-skating for fast and accurate setup. Since the Sumiko Rainier is factory-aligned with the tracking force set, simply turn the wheel to your desired value and you’re done with tonearm adjustments!

The T2 includes the acclaimed high-value Sumiko Rainier MM phono cartridge which synergizes beautifully with the sonic characteristics of the turntable. The cartridge is factory-aligned with the tracking force set! Remember that the Rainier can be easily upgraded to the Olympia, Moonstone or Wellfleet with the simple swap of a stylus.

Like the T1, the T2 Super Phono is topped-off with shielded, semi-symmetrical, low-capacitance phono cables purpose-designed by Pro-Ject for use with turntables. We also include an acrylic dust cover with adjustable hinges for your convenience. Everything you need is in the box and can be assembled in minutes!

The T2 uses gold-plated RCA outputs that are wired symmetrically (aka ‘balanced’) in the RCA junction box. Like any other Pro-Ject turntable with RCA phono outputs, it can be run balanced with the appropriate cartridge, cable & phono preamp. This means by upgrading to a MC cartridge or the Pick it PRO Balanced (the specially designed balanced MM cartridge), any of the balanced phono stages as well as a balanced connecting cable, you can capitalize on the advantages the True Balanced Connection has to offer. Audibly this amounts to less noise, greater dynamics, clearer transients and an overall more immersive experience.

For over 30 years, these turntables have been built and designed so that the focus is on sound quality over convenience-oriented features. Along the way Pro-Ject experimented with materials that vary in their resonance properties, and acrylic has remained . The first ever acrylic turntable (the 6.9Perspective) was a huge success. 6PerspeX variants have been around for 15+ years too, not to mention a host of 2Xperience variants in acrylic. Needless to say, the limited run of this Perspective Final Edition turntable sold out swiftly as well. Pro-Ject takes pride in how these turntables take advantage of both the aesthetic & sonic virtues of acrylic in hi-fi, but using acrylic in manufacturing not as easy as you might think. True, it’s anti-resonant, but the rest of the turntable too must lend sonic value to the equation. Measurement & critical listening reveal that acrylic can actually over-damp sonics if it’s not used thoughtfully. XA B uses an aluminum tonearm & platter, the Pick it PRO Balanced cartridge & purpose-selected isolation feet to render music in a lively, dynamic & detail-rich manner… an experience that becomes doubly immersive when you decide to take the plunge into the world of balanced phono.

The XA B turntable features a premium 10" one-piece aluminum armtube. The single-piece tube heightens rigidity while the 10" length widens the tonearm’s arc, reducing tracing error. The low-friction 4-pinpoint cardanic bearing assembly guarantees precise, stable & accurate tracking. Pro-Ject selected the aluminum armtube over carbon fiber for its sonic merits when paired with the resonant frequency of the acrylic plinth. The tonearm also offers audiophiles full control over their adjustment parameters. One can fine-tune not only tracking force & anti-skate, but also VTA & azimuth if needed. Listeners with cartridge-mounting skills are encouraged to try various cartridges and/or record mats to achieve their desired sonics!

The classic anti-skating system (adaptive anti-skating) changes with the skating force, which varies across a record side as groove conditions change. The TPE-damped counterweight significantly reduces unwanted armtube resonance. High-precision stainless steel cardanic tonearm bearings are used, meaning there’s minimal friction as the tonearm moves and absolutely no ‘play’ (or wiggle) in the bearing structure. This allows the stylus & cartridge to do their jobs unimpeded.

The Pro-Ject Pick it PRO Balanced cartridge allows for “True Balanced” signal transmission. A revised version of the Pick it PRO, the grounding has been rerouted so that it sends a symmetrical signal. The big advantage of a balanced connection is its ability to remove accrued noise and interference from the transmission line (not to mention +6dB gain!). In short, you get more music & less noise – the improvement is not subtle.

The True Balanced cable range offers several options for connecting your XA B to our Phono Box S3 B, Phono Box DS3 B, Tube Box DS3 B or Phono Box RS2 phono stages. Any phono preamp with mini XLR or XLR inputs will do the trick! With XA B’s DIN output, you’d require either an DIN > mini XLR or DIN > XLR cable.

Cables cannot add any information back to a given signal, rather, they’re responsible for allowing as much musical information as possible through to the receiving device. This is why the Connect it Phono E 5P > RCA cable has been included. Optimized for phono applications, we’ve implemented quality metals & careful configuration to ensure lossless signal transmission.

The 1.7kg (3.75lbs) die-cast aluminum platter is precision-balanced with additional machining after casting. This facilitates perfect platter rotation while playing records. The heavy aluminum platter also adds a TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) damping ring & corresponding cutout on the underside, muting any resonance created by the metal record platter and contributing to the flywheel effect.

The XA B stands on three damped & height-adjustable feet for excellent isolation. By using 3 feet the stability is increased on uneven surfaces for optimal leveling – a critical setup parameter in terms of maximizing the performance of a tonearm & cartridge.

Clean & stable power is critical for phono setups. The included power supply is a great starting point but you can take it a step further. Power Box S3 Phono provides power for the Debut PRO B (15V) as well as your Pro-Ject phono stage (18V). Its two outputs are specifically engineered to power Pro-Ject turntables and phono preamps simultaneously. The sophisticated DC filtration can have a dramatic impact on overall sound quality. In addition to the sonic improvements, Power Box S3 Phono also offers users a cleaner cable solution (only one wall-wart needed for the PSU).
