Details from Nikon

    Small, lightweight telephoto zoom lens

The AF–S DX NIKKOR 55–200mm f/4–5.6G ED VR II features a new retractable lens barrel designed keeping the lens small and lightweight. Even when fully zoomed out, the lens is just 83mm long, or 20% shorter than its predecessors. When zoomed in to 200mm, you will be able to crop in for intimate candids, or closer to wildlife that would otherwise be scared off by your prescence. The resulting lens is a well balanced match for Nikon's DX–format DSLR cameras.

    Vibrant, clear photos and videos

Using a combination of Super Integrated Coating and Extra–low Dispersion glass, the AF–S DX Nikkor 55–200mm f/4–5.6G ED VR II lens offers detailed images with excellent color and contrast. Super Integrated Coating (SIC) delivers superior color quality while reducing ghosting and lens flare. Extra–low Dispersion (ED) glass nearly eliminates optical distortion, while a rounded seven–blade diaphragm makes out of focus elements look more natural.

    Nikon Vibration Reduction (VR) technology

Nothing is worse that capturing a fantastic photo only to review and find it to be blurry. Nikon Vibration Reduction (VR) dramitically improves your chances for rendering crystal clear, handheld images even in low–light situation. VR provide 4.0 stops of compensation ensuring that your photos are blur free and Full HD videos remain steady.

    ED (Extra–Low Dispersion) Glass

An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.

    IF Lens

A NIKKOR lens in which only the internal lens group shifts during focusing. Thus, IF NIKKORS do not change in size during AF operation, allowing for compact, lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.

    Super Integrated Coating

Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.

    Silent Wave Motor

AF–S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM), which represents a significant advance in AF lens technology. SWM uses ultrasonic vibrations–rather than a gear system–to focus the lens, providing incredibly smooth, silent and precise autofocus operation.

    Vibration Reduction

A Nikon in–lens technology that improves image stability by automatically compensating for camera shake. Lenses that offer VR will feature the abbreviation VR on the lens barrel.
