Product Highlights

Audioquest is closing the gap between digital music lovers and hard–core audiophiles with the DragonFly Black. Previous models of the DragonFly Digital–to–Analogue Converter (DAC), preamp and headphone amp all–in–one, would plug directly into a PC or laptop USB port, bypassing the computer's sub–par internal sound system, to widen and enhance sound detail for clear and naturally beautiful audio through speakers and headphones. DragonFly Black takes portable Digital to Analogue Conversion one step further by allowing devices like MP3 players, smartphones and other non–USB devices, to use the DragonFly DAC to bring audiophile–grade sound to portable, digital music lovers. An upgraded 32–bit ESS Sabre 9010 DAC chip ensures more authentic sound from the DragonFly Black with a total output of 1.2 volts to effectively and directly drive modern headphones and all preamplifier input circuits. As an added bonus, the DragonflyBlack is software upgradeable through a free Windows or OS X desktop app designed to incorporate future upgrades and developments in music player applications, streaming protocols or other associated software.

Details from AudioQuest

    AudioQuest DragonFly Black

    1.2 volts

Direct–Coupled, Medium output — More than enough power to successfully and gracefully drive a wide range of today's efficient headphones. Although DF Black has a lower output voltage than DF 1.2, its more advanced microcontroller and updated DAC chip mean that it can deliver more musical texture and detail — even when used with moderate–efficiency (~95–100dB/mW) headphones. When used as a line–level device (volume set to 100%), DF Black's 1.2 volts provide enough power to drive all preamplifier, integrated amplifier, or receiver inputs.

    Microchip RIC32MX

The Microchip PIC32MX (USB 2.0 compliant) is a full–speed isochronous USB audio solution. Compared to other controllers, the Microchip microcontroller offers extremely low power consumption (77% lower than the TAS1020b and 95% lower than the most efficient XMOS solution), 32–bit architecture, and the option for software upgradibility (via a desktop application provided by AudioQuest). In addition, the Microchip's ultra–low–noise power supply minimizes the sound–degrading effect of high–frequency interference on the critical audio signal.

    ESS 9010 32–Bit

Compared to the ESS 9023, the 32–bit ESS 9010 offers improved overall performance and uses a sophisticated minimum–phase digital filter to provide more naturally detailed and dynamic music.

    Analog Volume Control

Digitally controlled (from the host) analog volume control. With DF Black connected to a PC or mobile device, adjusting the host's volume control will, through proxy, control the DF Black's onboard volume, ensuring maximum resolution regardless of volume setting.

    Asynchonous USB Streamlength®

Streamlength™ asynchronous USB code ensures low jitter, low resource load, minimal packet errors, world–class audio playback, and reliable connectivity between our DAC and any computing device compliant with USB Host Mode (as set forth by the USB Organization). Streamlength requires no additional drivers, making DragonFly Black virtually plug–and–play for Apple, Windows, iOS, and Android users.

    AudioQuest Jitterbug

    The Problem:

All computing devices–laptops, smartphones, Network Attached Storage devices (NAS drives), media servers, etc. – inherently generate a significant amount of noise and parasitic resonances. Additionally, computers contribute a considerable amount of RFI and EMI pollution onto the signal paths–all of which can easily find its way onto your USB cables and into your audio system. This noise and interference has many negative effects. Noise–compromised digital circuitry increases jitter and packet errors, resulting in distortion that causes a comparatively flat and irritating sound. Noise–compromised analog circuitry also damages the sound's depth, warmth and resolution.

    The Solution:

JitterBug's dual–circuitry measurably reduces unwanted noise currents and parasitic resonances. It also reduces jitter and packet errors (in some cases, packet errors are completely eliminated). The result is clearer and more compelling sound, music, dialog, etc. A better audio experience.
